Recently, Tongji Hospital was awarded the title of "Outstanding Unit for Organization and Dispatching of Chinese Anti-epidemic Medical Expert Group" by the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China. Seven people, namely, Liu Zheng, Xie Jungang, Fang Minghao, Chen Tao, Wang Xiong, Tan Li, and He Xifei, were awarded the title of "Outstanding Individual for Organization and Dispatching of Chinese Anti-epidemic Medical Expert Group".

In September 2020, at the request of the governments of Lesotho and Angola, the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China established an anti-epidemic medical expert group which was sent by the Chinese government to these two countries. Assigned by the Health Commission of Hubei Province, the group consisted of 10 people, 7 of whom are from Tongji Hospital, with Vice President Liu Zheng serving as the group leader. Team members are from such specialties as hospital management, hospital infection, respiration, severe disease, infection, traditional Chinese medicine, lab test, and epidemiology.

During the 25 days of the aid work in Africa, the expert group visited the Ministries of Health, the designated hospitals for COVID-19, nucleic acid testing institutions, and local offices of WHO in both countries, conducted training for local prevention and control personnel and medical staff at the community level, carried out experience sharing and exchange activities via online and offline ways to introduce the experience of China and Hubei in fighting against the epidemic, and submitted the English and Chinese versions of the Recommendations on COVID-19 Prevention and Control in Lesotho and Angola to the Ministries of Health of two countries. The expert group also visited local Chinese embassies, Chinese-funded hospitals, Chinese-funded enterprises, and local Chinese medical teams, to popularize prevention and control knowledge, supervise epidemic prevention and control measures, and provide guidance on prevention and control of COVID-19 for local Chinese and overseas Chinese. On the premise of preventing its members from being infected, the anti-epidemic medical expert group in Africa managed to share China's experience, deliver China's warmth, and contribute China's strength, successfully completing all tasks and making gratifying achievements on "winning the fight with no infection and promoting exchanges". It has won the praise of the foreign governments and all walks of life, demonstrating the good image of China as a responsible power and making due contribution to the building of China-Africa community of health and China-Africa community with a shared future.
