On October 23rd, a delegation of sixteen people, including Rahul Agarwal, the Science and Health Counsellor at the British Embassy China, Olivia Hildebrand, the Acting Consul General at the British Consulate-General Wuhan, Senior Trade and Investment Officer Chloe Lin from British Consulate-General Wuhan, and Ian Wheeler, Interim Head of Partnerships, Development and Collaboration at National Health Service England, visited Tongji Hospital. The reception was attended by Vice President Zhu Wentao, Vice President Zhang Huaqiu of the Optical Valley Campus, President Luo Xiaoping of Tongji Children's Hospital, Director Wang Man of the International Exchange Office, Library Director Hu Hong, Division Chief Zhang Chengliang from the Scientific Research Office, and Director Zeng Ming.
Vice President Zhu Wentao warmly welcomed Counsellor Rahul Agarwal and his delegation, stating that Tongji Hospital maintains a good cooperative relationship with British universities and government agencies. The hospital has hosted multiple visits from British Consulate and British healthcare institutions. In June of this year, the hospital visited institutions such as the University of Cambridge and Guy's and St. Thomas Hospital in the UK, where both sides reached a consensus on further cooperation. Taking this opportunity of this visit, he hoped that both sides would carry out broader and deeper cooperation in health care, jointly promote the health and well-being of the people of both countries, and enhance the friendship between the two nations.
Counsellor Rahul Agarwal expressed his gratitude for the warm reception by Tongji Hospital. He noted that China and the UK each have their own characteristics and advantages in the field of medical and health care, and both governments have made the health sector a priority in strategic cooperation. He hoped that this visit would lay the foundation for long-term strategic cooperation between the two countries and actively promote practical cooperation in personnel training, academic exchanges, and scientific research cooperation. Delegates from National Health Service, the University of Nottingham/Nottingham Ningbo China, GDK UK Healthcare Group, London Medical Exchange Center, and Elsevier introduced their organizations respectively and discussed the possibilities of future cooperation.
At the same time, a delegation of 6 people led by Acting Consul General Olivia Hildebrand visited the Optical Valley Campus of Tongji Hospital. Zhang Huaqiu introduced the basic situation and construction plan of the Optical Valley Campus and Tongji Children's Hospital to the guests at the meeting room of Tongji Children’s Hospital. Luo Xiaoping highlighted the overview medical education, research, and international exchange of the pediatric department of Tongji Hospital. The guests were impressed by the achievements and expressed hope for more cooperation in the future in the application of big data and artificial intelligence to deliver better care for children.
This visit laid the foundation for cooperation between the two sides in the field of medical and health care and add new momentum into the development of health and friendship between the people of the two countries.
