From August 5 to 7, the 2022 World Health Expo (hereinafter referred to as the Expo) was hosted in Wuhan by the People's Government of Hubei Province, the National Health Commission (NHC), and Wuhan Municipal People's Government, centering on the theme of "A Community of Health, A Future of Technology". The Expo is designed to build a shared platform for global health to collect high-quality industrial resources around the world and showcase state-of-the-art new products, new technologies, and new achievements in the world health sector. As a modern comprehensive hospital managed by NHC, Tongji Hospital has landed among the top hospitals nationwide for its comprehensive strength. It had been invited to the Expo and hold the Elderly Health Innovation Summit.
At the Expo, Tongji Hospital exhibited seven sets of digital medical solutions, all reaching the industry-leading level, including the COVID-19 real-time monitoring system of the National Medical Center for Major Public Health Events, the intelligent diagnosis and treatment system developed with Mindray, the tele-neurosurgery planning system, the tele-Hepatobiliary surgery planning system, the preoperative mixed reality collaborative system, ultrasound-guided puncture surgery robot, and Tongji intelligent medical equipment management platform developed with United Imaging.
The COVID-19 real-time monitoring system drew much attention from visitors. Since the establishment of the National Medical Center for Major Public Health Events in Tongji Hospital in April 2020, the center has been committed to building a treatment system at the national, provincial, municipal, and county levels which is guided by national medical centers and backed by regional medical centers. In addition, it has been devoted to creating a long-term prevention and control mechanism for major public health events covering prevention, warning, treatment, management, training, and R&D. Built on big data and natural language recognition technology, the COVID-19 real-time monitoring system can collect real-time information including the number of cases in all provinces and cities in China, outbreak areas, and vaccination to provide data support for pandemic prevention and control. The center has also developed the outpatient syndrome-based infectious disease monitoring system which will trigger a warning if the number of syndrome cases exceeds the threshold.
Over the years, Tongji Hospital has been integrating medicine and information technology and introducing and exploring new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, big data, the Internet of Things, VR, and 3D printing, paving the way for its leading position in the fields like internet plus medical health, and construction of intelligent hospital in China. In 2019, the Information Medical Institute of Huazhong University of Science and Technology was founded and now is attached to Tongji Hospital to promote scientific research innovation, achievement commercialization, and clinical application in information medicine sector. In October 2020, Tongji Hospital established the Medical Big Data Center and the Emergency Command and Telemedicine Center under the National Medical Center for Major Public Health Events. In terms of digital construction, it has built an integrated cloud platform applied in the headquarters and all branches. The maturity of the interconnected standard for the hospital information system has reached the fifth grade and second class, while the evaluation on the application of electronic medical records has hit grade five, significantly enhancing patients' sense of gain from medical treatment and contributing to the building of healthy Hubei and healthy China.
