From June 23 to 30, a Tongji Delegation led by the Deputy Secretary of CPC of Tongji Hospital, Liao Jiazhi, visited the University of Cambridge, Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in the UK, the German Ministry of Health, and was invited to attend the 2024 Berlin Capital Congress, aiming to expand Tongji Hospital's European partnerships and deepen the strategic deployment of "fully building a world-class hospital."
At the University of Cambridge, the delegation visited the Addenbrooke's Hospital affiliated to the University of Cambridge and the Cambridge Science Park, and held discussions with Professor Dervila Glynn, the strategic director of the Cambridge Institute of Neuroscience. Professor Glynn affirmed the development of Tongji Hospital and its neuroscience, and expressed a desire for in-depth cooperation in scientific research, teaching, and clinical practice to jointly promote the development of neuroscience. Both sides discussed further scientific research cooperation, jointly hosting academic conferences, international clinical research, and talent training.
At Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT), the delegation, accompanied by the group's operations director Saeed Sadighi, visited St Thomas' Hospital and Evelina Children's Hospital and held discussions with relevant colleagues. At the meeting, Liao Jiazhi introduced the situation of Tongji Hospital, its Optical Campus and Tongji Children's Hospital. Sadighi stated that Tongji Hospital has outstanding advantages and rapid development, and is a highly valued partner of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. Both sides agreed to enrich the forms of cooperation, promote innovative medical talent training and high-level scientific research cooperation, and contribute to the development of global medical education.
On June 27, the delegation attended the 2024 Capital Congress held in Berlin. Chen Linhao, the Minister of the Science and Technology Office of the Chinese Embassy to Germany, Professor Liao Jiazhi, the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Tongji Hospital, Professor Michael Nerlich, the President of the German-Chinese Medical Association, and Marie-Luise Müller, the President of the German-Chinese Nursing Association, attended the conference and delivered speeches. This year’s theme of the Congress is Corporation and Empowerment. Professor Wang Wei, former Executive Vice President of Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Vice Chairman of the Chinese Medical Association, gave lectured on "Exploration of the Mechanism of Neuroimmune Diseases and Innovative Cell Therapy". Professor Wang Daowen from the Department of Cardiology of Tongji Hospital shared his latest research on "Chinese Guideline on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Fulminant Myocarditis in Adults," and the Deputy Director of the Nursing Department of Tongji Hospital, Hu Luhong, delivered a speech at the conference on "Thoughts and Practices of Precision Nursing under the Background of High-Quality Development". Their speeches were highly recognized and praised by German experts at the conference.
At the German Ministry of Health, the delegation attended the 40th anniversary ceremony of the establishment of the German-Chinese Medical Association. Ingo Behnel, the Director of International Cooperation of the German Ministry of Health, and Chen Linhao from the Science and Technology Office of the Chinese Embassy to Germany attended the ceremony. At the meeting, Liao Jiazhi reported on the 40th anniversary of the cooperation between the German-Chinese Medical Association and the Chinese-German Medical Association. Since the establishment of the two associations in 1984, they have held annual meetings every year and have been committed to promoting exchanges and cooperation in medicine between China and Germany, making a positive contribution to the development of medicine in both countries and deepening the friendship between the peoples of the two countries. Tongji Hospital, as the chairman unit of the German-Chinese Medical Association, is also committed to promoting academic exchanges between medical experts and students from both countries. Through the two associations, Tongji Hospital has established contact with more than 20 universities and medical institutions in Germany, and frequent exchanges between medical personnel and research institutions from both countries have also built a solid bridge for cooperation. Close exchanges in the field of health have further enhanced mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of the two countries. Ingo Behnel expressed his hope that both sides will carry out more extensive and in-depth cooperation in the field of health, learn from each other, complement each other's strengths, and strengthen cooperation on this platform.
This visit is of great significance for our hospital to further deepen the strategic deployment of "fully building a world-class hospital" under new circumstances, enhance the construction of a high-level international partnership network, promote high-quality development of the hospital, and promote the training of innovative medical talents and the transfer of scientific research results.
