At the invitation of Nephrology Department, Professor Dr. med. A.D.Wagner from Department of Nephrology, Medizinische Hochschule Hannover, Germany visited Tongji Hospital on May 1st. Tight schedule has been made during her staying from May 1st to 10th in Tongji. Prof. Wagner contacted some department directors and visited the wards in the morning and exchanged the opinions and talked with the students in the laboratory in the afternoon.

On May 7th, Prof. Wagner held a lecture for the teachers and students with a theme of Rare Diseases in the 18th floor of Administration Building. Dean Xu Gang from Nephrology Department presided over the lecture and Professor Bu Bitao from Neurology Department accompanied by. Besides, some administrative colleagues and Chinese and foreign students also took part in the lecture.

In her lecture, Prof. Wagner firstly introduced the definition and characteristics of rare diseases. Then, the background, organization and operation of Rare Disease Centers (CRD) had been illustrated with full explanation. Lastly, Prof. Wagner talked about the objectives of CRD-Clinic, CRD-Research and CRD-Teaching/training as well as the research projects. She also expressed her willingness to establish the cooperation relationship with the colleagues from Tongji Hospital.

After the speech, Dean Xu and Prof. Bo exchanged their opinions with Prof. Wagner and conveyed their willingness to extend a further discussion in the following days. The lecture was ended by a hot and efficient discussion between Prof. Wagner and students in the hall.
