To further improve the communication and cooperation and enhance the development of Anesthesiology Department, Tongji Hospital, Professor Wei Huafeng from Medical College of Pennsylvania University was invited to visit Tongji on August 23rd. During his four days here, Professor Wei held several academic lectures and was granted as the Visiting Professor of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST).

On the morning of 24th, Professor visited the new operation room and demonstrated some clinical skills, inspired the medical staff of Anesthesiology Department accompanied by. Afterwards, Professor Wei visited the Anesthesiology Laboratory and had an open discussion with the medical staff and students there on the edge issue of the anesthesia basic research and he also provided considerable suggestions on the development of the lab.

On the afternoon, the awarding ceremony for visiting professor of HUST was held in the Anesthesiology Department Lecture Room. Professor Tian Yuke, Director of Anesthesiology Department chaired the ceremony and vice President Wu Hua took part in the ceremony and delivered the speech. Firstly, vice President Wu introduced Professor Wei’s academic accomplishment and extended our warmest welcome to him on behalf of all the staff in Tongji and expressed our best wishes for Professor Wei’s awarding as the first visiting professor of HUST. Later, Professor Wei delivered an academic lecture. Over 200 medical staff and graduates from different hospitals in Wuhan participated in the lecture and discussed warmly with Professor Wei.

Professor Wei is the tenure associate professor of Anesthesiology Department, Medical College, Pennsylvania University and was elected as American Outstanding Physician in 2011. Professor Wei has earned a lot of experience in neuro-scientific research and clinical treatment. His laboratory has been subsidized of several NIH funds and he has published many high qualified papers which have been cited widely. Up to now, he has already won two American patents and two international ones.

For the past several years, Professor Wei has been keeping close touch with Anesthesiology Department and made important contribution on the bilateral international communication. His lab has introduced several physicians from Tongji Anesthesiology Department to observe in the Anesthesiology and Emergency Center of Medical College, Pennsylvania University and he has also accepted some others to conduct the post-doctor research in his lab.
